TRESS -Trusted Research Environments Software Stewardship, a research project, funded by DARE UK (Data and Analytics Research Environments UK) is a collaboration between the University of Oxford, University College London (UCL), and the Thames Valley & Surrey Secure Data Environment (TVS SDE), running between September 2025 to September 2026.
TRESS will oversee the actual practical implementation of shared production-grade software meeting the requirements of TRE deployments at two large-scale research universities, including real research applications, building upon work already completed, and the primary research outcome will include a documented Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for inter-organisational shared TRE code, which is in live operation at the universities. This will form a blueprint for SDLC in a national federated TRE network. The TRESS project will also deliver a series of insightful public engagement activities in 2026, and we look forward to welcoming all interested parties to these - further details to be announced shortly.
The primary outcomes of the project will be:
- the open-source TRE itself (built using the SDLC),
- an open-source ISMS (incorporating the SDLC),
- and a set of research applications/examples drawing on multiple disciplines.
Visit again soon, and we will hopefully have more information available about the project.
